Rolex Watches Marks Its 100th Year Anniversary With Record-Breaking Auction
Manufacturer of some of the world’s most famous watches, Rolex, as we know, is celebrating its 100th year anniversary, and we couldn’t be more proud of the company.
Rolex Watches was founded in 1908 by Hans Wilsdorf and Michael Hickman, who entered the luxury watch world unexpectedly to become the kings of the watch world by making beautiful designs from the Daytona to the Yachtmaster.
They have since become well known for luxury sporting watches and for their support for sporting events. The Daytona, for example, is one of Rolex Watches most popular designs, named after the famous car race.
A commemorative auction was recently held in New York by Antiquorum Auctioneers, and featured some classic and vintage designs. Several types of Daytona watches were available at the auction, and at the end of the day, nine world records were broken for sales. The highest price was $248,000 for a vintage Comex Sea-Dweller in stainless steel.
A host of other rare Rolex watches went for prices between $20,000 and $230,000. Overall, $8,515,260 was achieved, and it was a smashing success for the celebrated watch manufacturer.
Julien Schaerer, Auctioneer & Watch Director of Antiquorum USA commented: "Today's outcome for our thematic auction was strong evidence of collectors' appreciation for Rolex and established Tudor as a collector's brand; we couldn't be more delighted with the results of this extraordinary sale."
